What does a ground controller do?
To avoid accidents and offer Pilots guidance, Ground Controllers help direct planes between the terminal and the runway. All Controllers work to keep a safe distance between planes, whether in the air or on the ground. You take control of directing the plane as soon as it begins to back away from the terminal gates.

How many hours a day does an air traffic controller work?
In the FAA most Air Traffic Controllers work an 8 hour shift, which includes their meal break. Some controllers work alternate work schedules that include some 9 or 10 hour shifts. By statute FAA controllers may not work more than 10 hours in a shift.
