What is the responsibility of the FAA?
Our major roles include: Regulating civil aviation to promote safety. Encouraging and developing civil aeronautics, including new aviation technology. Developing and operating a system of air traffic control and navigation for both civil and military aircraft.
Congress has provided the FAA with exclusive authority to regulate aviation safety, the efficiency of the navigable airspace, and air traffic control, among other things. Cities and municipalities are not permitted to have their own rules or regulations governing the operation of aircraft.
